These home cleaning essentials will help you simplify your cleaning routine and help you get the clean home you have always wanted.
There is nothing quite like the feeling a clean home provides. It can give your family a sense of calm, ease and order that wouldn't otherwise be felt. As a full time homemaker, I take cleaning my home seriously, it is after all part of my job. I know that for many cleaning the home can seem mundane, maybe even burdensome, but I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be! Here I have compile a list of essential cleaning supplies for homemakers that have made my cleaning routine fun, manageable and just another seamless piece of my homemaking routine.
Essential House Cleaning tools and equipment
A great vacuum
A great vacuum is highly underrated in my book. My vacuum is one of the most utilized tools in my essential cleaning supply arsenal and man oh man does it do a great job! I have never been disappointed with my Miele USA vacuum, in fact after I had such great luck with my first, I proceeded to buy two more for other areas of my home. a great vacuum with a HEPA filter can reduce toxins, dust and allergens in your home. I highly recommend investing in a vacuum with a HEPA filter and using it often.
Bag or bagless Vacuum
This is a highly personal choice, some love the flexibility and eco appeal of bagless vacuums. You never have to replace the bag, so it's more affordable. You don't run the risk of running out of bags unexpectedly. They are simple and usually quite easy to clean.
Then there is the bagged vacuum, I am unabashedly team bagged vacuum. I know, I know you end up using bags and then having to through them away etc. etc. Hear me out though. With a bagged vacuum you have less clean up, less chance of spilling dirt all over the place. They really clean up quite well and the biggest thing that I have found to love about my bagged vacuums is that they last SO much longer. I have had one of my current bagged vacuums for almost ten years and it is still going STRONG. My mom used an upright bagged vacuum that was a hand-me-down from her mom until the company literally stopped making that bag (35 years later!!).
I have tried the bagless versions and sadly they have all broken relatively shortly after purchase (I'm talking two years or so) and so in the spirit of being eco friendly and really just because I LOVE these vacuums so very much, I invested in a bagged miele and I have never looked back!
Cleaning and Dust Rags
Cleaning rags might seem like a no brainer to you. Having a basket full of clean rags for whenever a spill or mess occurs can be an absolute game changer. Keeping these essential cleaning supplies accessible and organized for your kids and husband to use is also a plus! I highly recommend a high quality waffle weave rag, but you can also use an old cut up shirt or microfiber if that suits you better. I cleaning rags for everything from quick counter clean-up to dusting and polishing. I like to purchase a darker color that hides dirt and so they look new even after months of use.
A reusable dust mop
My household just recently got on the reusable dust mop train and I'm wondering why it's taken me so long! This tool is awesome for quick cleaning on wood floors or tile and I like to use it to clean my bathroom floors at least weekly.
A Toilet Brush
Gross right!? but we all need a great one that will last. I like the ones with disposable heads that I can change out as necessary.
A Heavy Duty Scrub brush
These are great for deep cleaning floors grout and other areas that are hard to clean with just rags. I highly recommend this one.
Essential Natural Cleaning Products
Of course you need some great cleaning products to take a little bit of the muscle work out of your routine. I swear by these simple natural inexpensive products that you probably already have in your home. It's amazing what you can do with hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol vinegar and a little Castile soap. I rarely buy any ready made cleaning products, but there are some good ones on the market if the DIY route isn't for you.
If you prefer to purchase pre-made cleaners, I highly recommend the following.
- Method toilet cleaner.
- Borax for whitening laundry cleaning toilets etc.
- Bon a mi for cleaning kitchen sinks and scouring most surfaces.
- Onguard all purpose cleaner, for highchairs counters toilet seats etc.
- Honest Co hydrogen peroxide spray for disinfecting bathrooms door knobs etc.
