A weekly cleaning routine shouldn't overburden you or create stress in your life, in fact it should do the opposite. Streamline your housekeeping chores into an fun and manageable routine to keep the dust bunnies at bay and feel good enjoying your home with the ones you love most!
Benefits of cleaning your home
The Benefits of a clean home are endless. The benefits of having a clean home can impact your health specifically. Clean homes cleaned with natural cleaning products, typically have fewer harmful VOC's, less allergens, dander and heavy metals to breathe in. Clean homes also typically have fewer viruses and harmful bacteria hanging around. People with clean homes also tend to be more fit and have lower stress and fatigue according to one study done by Indiana University.
Build your own weekly house cleaning routine
Everyones lives look different, that's why it's so important to create your own weekly cleaning routine that works for you and your family. My cleaning routine easily changes with the seasons and yours can too!
Start by listing out all of the cleaning tasks you need to accomplish in a week. My list looks something like this.
- Bathrooms
- Bed linens
- Bath Linens
- Kids Laundry
- Adult Laundry
- Kitchen Clean
- Fridge Clean
- Floors
- Dusting
- Vacuum
Your list might look completely different and that's great too!
You can use my free printable (located at the bottom of this post) to write all of your cleaning tasks down. I added a category for monthly cleaning as well, if you want to build that into the routine.
To build your actual cleaning routine you then break your essential tasks into days of the week. For example some weeks I do almost all of my cleaning routine on Monday. Other weeks I break down all of my tasks into specific days. Which might look something like this.
Monday
- Bathrooms
- Bath linens
Tuesday
- Dusting
- Floors
- Vacuum
WEdnesday
- Kitchen
- Fridge
- Adult Laundry
THursday
- Kids Laundry
- Bedding
You get the idea...
It just depends on the season of life and what else is going on during the week. Knowing what I need to accomplish that week is the easiest way to build a routine I actually stick with.
The key is to building a successful cleaning routine is knowing not what I need to get done each day, but exactly what needs to be done by weeks end. Creating and "schedule" and then beating yourself up when life happens doesn't encourage keeping a clean or happy home.
Have the cleaning supplies you need on hand
One great tip for success in your weekly cleaning routine is having the supplies you need for success on hand. For a complete list of cleaning essentials you can read my post here.
